Summer School 2021
During the summer holidays of 2021 Stewards Academy opened its doors to over 140 pupils from our new cohort of Year 7s for ‘Summer School’: The school was a buzz of activity, life, and joy for the 5 days!
Pupils got the chance to meet their new form tutors and fellow tutees as well as meet some of their new teachers and socialise with their peers. A variety of activities were on offer throughout the week such as, art, rocket launches, baking, drama, dance, music, chess, crochet, creative writing, maths challenges, historic battles (involving water balloons!!), trampolining, bug hotels and martial arts to name some.
Students were greeted every morning in the hall for a year group activity before heading off to their other enrichment activities. The week was finished with a sports day battle between the four houses with each tutor group showing their skills and challenging each other through each of their own designed Hakas! House Bravery seized the day by winning the overall and prestigious Sports Day title!
Some of the comments shared by the participants as they reflected on the week, stated that “It was really fun”, “there were lots of experiences led by different people”, “it was really useful to be able to find and learn about the school before starting!”.
Helen Martin, Summer School Co-Ordinator and Head of Art and Photography said: “Not only was the week a huge success for pupils, but staff members also thoroughly enjoyed meeting and getting to know our new cohort. It has been lovely to recognise their faces as they walk through the door to start the new term. New friendships were made, and an excellent week of fun was had by all! I would also like to thank our new Year 10 and Year 11 prefects who helped with the new cohort, the week would not have been the same without you!”
