Remembrance Day
On Friday 10th November Stewards was proud to hold its annual Remembrance event. The event was led by deputy headteacher, Mr Drew. After a short lining up practice during form time in the morning, students and staff gathered on the central quad area ready for our ceremony. At 10.58am a visiting trumpeter played The Last Post for the assembled crowd, and then we moved into the two minutes silence before the reveille was played to mark the end of the silence. We then heard from our head boy and girl team as they read poems that they had chosen for the event. We were blessed with a crisp November day, and once again our young people showed impeccable standards as they observed the silence and listened to the poems being read by their peers.
As is traditional we finished our ceremony with the reading of the words of John Maxwell Edmonds inscribed on the Commonwealth War Graves’ memorial in the Kohima Cemetery in north east India:
“When you go home, tell them of us and say
For your tomorrow, we gave our today.”
