Melik's Bake Sale

The Stewards Academy community came together on Friday 28th September to support an amazing charity bake sale. This was organised by Year 9 student, Melik, to raise awareness of Ataxia Telangiectasia and money for the AT society. Ataxia Telangiectasia (AT) – also known as Louis-bar syndrome- is a rare inherited childhood neurological disorder that affects the part of the brain that controls motor movement and speech. “The AT Society exists to enable people with AT to make the most of the lives they have. We are unique in that we both support people with AT and fund research”. Home – AT Society Melik, a recent Jack Petchey Achievement Award recipient, used some of his allocated funding to purchase the ingredients for the bake sale. Alongside a team of helpers, he spent Thursday afternoon baking and decorating in preparation for the following day. Mrs da Vighi, Enrichment Coordinator, said: “It was absolutely brilliant to see so many of our staff and students come along to support Melik’s bake sale and to raise awareness about AT. Melik and his team of bakers, including Mrs Long, Mrs Davies, Ms Bormond and Ms Brooks, did a fantastic job with the cakes and cookies. It was testament to how delicious they were that we sold out at break time and more had to be baked!”
