Peer Mentors
Peer mentoring has long been evidenced as having a positive impact on the emotional health and well-being of children and young people.
Peer mentoring can support children and young people by:
• developing social skills
• building confidence within the school setting and the wider community by developing self esteem
• improving attendance and academic engagement
Our Peer Mentors are a committed group of young adults, who, having undertaken a rigorous application and interview process and intensive training day, make themselves available to support younger members of our school community.
The Peer Mentors work with their tutor groups throughout the year, visiting them weekly during morning prep. They offer support with organisation, organise Library visits and, and lead spelling coaching, and homework guidance sessions. We also have dedicated Library Mentors to assist pupils in selecting books and helping them along on their reading journey. During the first term, our Peer Mentors also make themselves available before assembly, and during break and lunchtime, to support Year 7 pupils in helping with the questions or worries that may arise in the early weeks of the new term.
