Subject Intent

A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Aims

Within PE we aim to ensure that all pupils:

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities.
  • Are physically active for sustained periods of time.
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities
  • Experience challenge and enjoyment.
  • Establish a pattern of health and wellbeing, embedding a lifelong love of sport.

Key Stage 3

Physical Education and school sport is at the heart of Stewards Academy.  We aim to provide all students with a positive PE experience and a wealth of opportunities in both physical education and sport.  The department creates a safe and positive environment in order to help pupils to reach their potential in PE whatever their level of ability – students develop confidence, leadership, team work and mutual respect through the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum.  We pride ourselves on the excellent working relationships that we develop with our students, both in lessons, and during the vast array of extra-curricular clubs and opportunities we provide.   All students receive 150 minutes of PE across the 2 week timetable in KS3. Pupils are taught in half year groups of four tutor groups.  Most lessons are delivered to mixed ability groups although when appropriate students may be split into ability groups or mixed gender groups for certain activities.
