Year 8 West Essex & Harlow Rugby Champions Again
The Year 8 rugby team finished the rugby season for Stewards by playing in the West Essex & Harlow final against Davenant school. The lads were in great spirits on the minibus going to the game and were desperate to repeat last year's performance by winning both the Harlow & West Essex rugby finals. There was a great team spirit and they needed to show resilience and determination to keep out the Davenant opposition who took an early lead by scoring the first try. The first half of the game was a very cagey affair as both teams were testing each other out and committing a number of offences for tackling too high. Stewards then scored their first try much to the delight of the large crowd made up of parents and teachers and scored by Emet. After a stunning try by Tino down the wing Stewards were back in front.
It was a real testament to the teams' character that Stewards kept going and got their noses back in front thanks to Emet, Jacob, Abraham and Tino all scoring tries again matched with a great team performance marshalled by Austin. The crowd and opposition commented that Stewards showed great sportsmanship at the end of the game by shaking hands with their worthy opponents and forming a tunnel to clap them off the pitch. We couldn’t have been more proud of you all for your performance on the pitch and your conduct afterwards.
