Sports Presentation Evening
We celebrated the sporting achievements of our students when we held the Annual Sports Presentation Evening. 78 pupils were invited along as prize winners for a range of sports – across football, netball, rugby, swimming, cricket, tennis, archery, judo, dance and GCSE/BTEC PE exam groups. It really is an event that celebrates the sporting excellence of the students and the 78 winners should be very proud of their achievements. Stewards Sports Presentation Evening is an opportunity to reward and thank the pupils for their contribution towards PE at Stewards, a contribution that has improved the standard of sport and allowed them to shine. Pupils were honoured with trophies and a very special sports top which was sponsored by ex-pupil and Managing Director of Diesel UK, Jonathan Hewlett. Organiser of the event Assistant Headteacher and Head of PE Simon Preece said “success takes courage, courage to act when maybe others don’t, all the winners have stood out from the crowd because of their hard work, their ability to be relied upon and most importantly they commit to things, so when they say they will do something they do it!”. Following on from the recent Inspirational Sports Event in collaboration with the Jamie Baulch Academy, rising shooting competitor James Huckle who is currently training for the 2012 Olympics was present to speak to the assembled audience. All pupils walked away with a trophy for their determination, commitment and self-belief, but also the schools new rugby top which they can then wear in PE lessons to demonstrate their personal success. The PE department would like to thank all the pupils for their dedication and encourage them to keep pushing for new heights in their accomplishments. Lastly we would like to wish Tom Hughes the very best for the next year, as he ventures overseas to coach and teach and look forward to seeing him back in September 2012. Particular mention should be made of 4 pupils for their particular excellence in their sports – Louise Devlin in archery, Adam Pope for judo, Jack Webber in tennis and John Withington in golf. “These are young people to watch out for in the forthcoming Olympics!” said Simon Preece.
