Curriculum Key Stage 4
At Stewards Academy we offer a three year Key Stage 4 programme that students follow in Years 10 and 11. All students study a combination of core (compulsory) and option subjects. The number of option choices that individuals are able to make is dependent on the pathway that they follow.

All students study all of the core subjects and these courses all lead to GCSE examinations. Students are taught in ability sets for English, Maths and Science. The pathway that individual students follow is based upon their individual interests and the one that is most suited to their ability.
All of our option subjects lead to GCSE or BTEC qualifications. We aim to ensure that each individual student's Key Stage 4 programme is tailored to his/her interests, at the same time as providing appropriate challenge and the right basis for future study and careers. At the point when students make their option choices in the Spring of Year 8, each student has the opportunity to discuss their option choices. In addition, any student who wishes to have individual careers advice from the Academy’s' independent Careers Advisor is able to do so.
Dependent on academic ability, some students will be advised to follow the English Baccalaureate Options Pathway. This will mean that one of their options subjects will be either Geography or History. They will also study a Modern Foreign Language. The remaining two options will be free choices. We believe that for the students placed on this pathway the range of subjects they will study will best equip them for further education and careers.
